Turkey is an indispensable partner to the European Union. The country’s extraordinary economic performance over the last decade and its new political role in the region highlight the importance of this partnership. However, in Europe one still encounters the misperception that Turkey is an underdeveloped, economically unstable and culturally monolithic state without a coherent foreign policy. At the same time, paired with a new political and cultural self-consciousness the deferred membership negotiations have led to an increasing renunciation of the Turkish public from the EU.
IPC provides new impetus to the EU-Turkish and especially the German-Turkish partnership and the membership debate through cutting-edge research, strong advocacy and the exchange of people and ideas. As such, it will make a sustainable contribution to the diversification of Turkey’s image in Europe as well as the perception of the EU in the Turkish public.
