Ethemcan Turhan is a 2014/15 Mercator-IPC Fellow. is an environmental social scientist with a background in environmental engineering and political ecology. His main research interests include adaptation to climate change, climate policy, political ecology, migration, and human security.

Ethemcan holds a B.Sc. from Middle East Technical University. After receiving his degree, Ethemcan worked for UNDP Turkey as Project Assistant on climate change and sustainable rural development projects. He received his M.A. degree from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain) specializing on climate and global change. He has recently completed his Ph.D. dissertation at the same institute under the supervision of Dr. Christos Zografos and Dr. Giorgos Kallis. His doctoral research focused on social vulnerability of migrant seasonal agricultural worker communities in Turkey as well as investigating the dominant discourses of policy makers in Turkey regarding national climate change adaptation policy. Ethemcan was a recipient of FI-DGR 2011 doctoral fellowship from Generalitat de Catalunya and is an alumnus of the Brown University International Advanced Research Institute (BIARI). He has been a visiting researcher at the Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS) since early 2014.
