The Role of Art and Sports in Overcoming Polarization
IPC’s Conflict Resolution and Mediation Stream Project Manager Pınar Akpınar and Project Officer Efe Doğuş Selvi convened the workshop titled “The Role of Art and Sports in Overcoming Polarization” on October 5, 2017 at IPC Karaköy. The workshop began with a welcoming speech from IPC Director Fuat Keyman and was moderated by IPC Researcher Altay Atlı.
Polarization is one of the biggest obstacles for the stability and development of Turkey. The lack of dialogue and reconciliation negatively affects the potential for resolution of problems. Art and sports projects have the potential to positively influence conflict resolution and dialogue processes. The workshop on ‘The Role of Art and Sports in Overcoming Polarization’ brought together experts from arts, sports, bureaucracy, politics, academia, civil society and media circles who have previous experience in such projects. It aimed at finding solutions as to how art and sports can be used more efficiently for overcoming polarization. Designed in an interactive format, the workshop intended to present concrete policy advice to stakeholders by bringing together experts from relative fields.
