About
Climate change stands out as one of the main research areas of the Istanbul Policy Center (IPC). In this field, activities are organized to increase capacity, establish networks that bring stakeholders together, support policies, and raise public awareness. To mitigate the impacts of climate change and adapt to it, comprehensive research is conducted at both national and international levels, and science-based policy recommendations are developed. Comprehensive studies are carried out, particularly focusing on energy transition, climate policies, adaptation to climate change, and just transition, with policy documents and reports published on these topics.
IPC offers a platform that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking for experts, academics, and decision-makers. Additionally, through monthly event series like Nature and Climate and Climate Café, the aim is to discuss climate action on a rights-based platform and support the work being done in this area. In this context, various projects are carried out with different partners, strengthening the discourse on human and nature rights in climate action. Furthermore, close cooperation with policymakers, civil society, and the private sector aims to increase the impact of climate-related activities and ensure that Turkey takes an active role in global climate negotiations. Sabancı University has been officially represented at the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) since 2015.
IPC plays a leading role in supporting Turkey's transition to a sustainable and low-carbon future and in combating climate change.
