
Andreas Nick is a 2022 Mercator-IPC Senior Fellow at IPC. He served as Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and Head of the German Delegation from 2018 until January 2022. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 2013 to 2021, serving as a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and ranking member on the Sub-Committee on the United Nations, International Organisations and Globalisation. During his time in the Bundestag, he was a rapporteur for the UN, the Council of Europe, Turkey, South America, and Hungary. At PACE, he was the first Vice Chair of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy from 2020–2022 and Vice President of the EPP Group from 2018–2022.
Andreas Nick was elected to the German Bundestag following a professional career of more than 15 years in investment banking. He was head of M&A at Sal. Oppenheim from 2006–2011 and and head of M&A Germany at UBS from 2000–2005 after working for Credit Suisse and Barclays in both Frankfurt and London from 1994 to 2000. He was appointed as Professor of Management Practice at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management in 2012/13.
Andreas Nick holds an MA in International Public Policy (MIPP) from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC as well as a PhD and a Diplom-Kaufmann from the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar. He attended the Executive Education Programs at Harvard Business School ("The Global Economy") in 2011 and Harvard Kennedy School ("Policymaking in the 21st Century") in 2016.
Andreas Nick was a trustee of the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) in Washington, DC from 2007 until 2013. Dr. Nick has been a CDU member of the Westerwaldkreis County Council since 1998. He is a former scholar at Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. He is a member of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP), Deutsche Gesellschaft für die Vereinten Nationen (DGVN), and Chatham House - Royal Institute for International Affairs in London. In 2022, he was appointed as an adviser to the working group on "Sustainable Development and Global Responsibility" of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK).
