Commemorating Prof. Dr. Fuat Keyman: "A Life in Pursuit of Knowledge"
We commemorated the Honorary Director of Istanbul Policy Center (IPC) and one of the most respected figures in academia and public life, Prof. Dr. Fuat Keyman, through a special event titled “A Life in Pursuit of Knowledge” held at Minerva Han on May 15–16, 2025.
Spanning two days and marked by high attendance, the program offered a multifaceted reflection on Fuat Keyman’s academic legacy, intellectual contributions, public intellectual identity, and strong ties to civil society, as shared by his family, friends, colleagues, and students. The event began with opening remarks from Sabancı University President Prof. Dr. Yusuf Leblebici, IPC Director Prof. Dr. Senem Aydın-Düzgit, and Prof. Dr. Şebnem Gümüşçü, and continued with seven panels dedicated to different aspects of his work and impact.
The first day featured personal reflections on Fuat Keyman’s intellectual journey, followed by sessions focusing on his engagement with civil society, the international order, and Turkish foreign policy. On the second day, panels explored the core themes that shaped his ethical and intellectual perspective—from international collaborations to urban studies, from equal citizenship and democracy to well-being and gender.
The event became a space of collective memory, enriched by the presence of academics, civil society representatives, cultural figures, and students from Turkey and abroad. It was further deepened by video messages and online contributions, reflecting both the profound respect for the legacy Fuat Keyman leaves behind and the responsibility to carry it forward.
We remember Fuat Keyman with love, longing, and deep respect. We remain committed to honoring and sustaining his life dedicated to science, society, and democracy.
