Barbara Pusch studied sociology, Turkology, philosophy, and ethnology at the University of Vienna. Her academic interest in Turkey evolved during the process of writing her Master’s thesis on young Turkish women in Vienna. Pusch received her PhD at the University of Vienna with a dissertation about the Green movement in Turkey. Subsequently, she was engaged in a number of post-doctoral projects on women and Islam in Turkey. Currently, she concentrates on migration studies as her main research topic and has been involved in several international work-groups and projects on migration to and through Turkey. As a research fellow at the Orient-Institut Istanbul, she focused on Turkey as a target country for migration, German citizens in Turkey, remigration, and German-Turkish transnationalization.

As a Mercator-IPC Fellow, Barbara Pusch carried out her research project, “Dual Citizenship and other Modes of Legal Membership in the Transnational German-Turkish Space.”
