Galip Dalay has worked in academia and think tanks in different capacities. He was a IPC-Mercator Stiftung Fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), nonresident fellow at the Brookings Doha Centre, visiting scholar at the University of Oxford, and a political researcher at the SETA Foundation in Ankara.
Dalay has served as research director and senior associate at Al Sharq Forum, and CATS fellow at SWP. He previously also served as Richard von Weizsäcker fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy, and visiting fellow at the Institute for Human Science (IWM) in Vienna. He has served on high-level task forces, including task forces organized by the Robert Bosch Academy and the Institute for Human Science.
Dalay’s research focuses on regionalism and regional order in the Middle East, regional security, intellectual and global history of internationalism, Turkish politics, Turkish foreign policy, post-conflict stabilization and peace building, Turkey - West relations, and Turkey - Russia relations.
Dalay has published a large number of commentaries, policy papers, academic articles, and chapters in edited volumes, most recently “Turkish-Russian Relations in Light of Recent Conflicts: Syria, Libya, and Nagorno-Karabakh” (SWP Research Paper); “Turkey, Europe, and the Eastern Mediterranean: Charting a way out of the current deadlock” (Brookings Doha Center Policy Briefing). His work has also appeared in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Project Syndicate, Newsweek, Le Monde, Al Jazeera, Open Democracy, Middle East Eye, and The World Politics Review.
Dalay completed his undergraduate in Business Administration at Istanbul University and M.S., European Studies, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in History at Oxford University.
Pandemic, Climate, Society
As Istanbul Policy Center, from the beginning of 2020, when the COVID-19 epidemic began, we organized numerous panels on the web, where the situation of the world, societies, and individuals under the epidemic conditions was evaluated. We would like to share our book titled 'Pandemic, Climate, Society' prepared from these panels: We discussed the economic and social effects of the epidemic in the world, especially in the European Union and Turkey, starting from the very first days. Most participants think that there is a lot we can learn from this experience and that we need to mobilize this experience towards a just world order to cope with future epidemics and ecological crises. We are publishing this book at a point where we leave the epidemic behind with the discovery and application of the vaccine. For us, the great success of the last two years belongs to science, doctors, health workers, and scientists around the world. We would like to thank our listeners who followed our panels and guided our work with their suggestions and all our speakers who contributed, especially Ayşe Köse Badur and Semih Sökmen, who prepared this work for publication.
