Mercator-IPC Fellowship Program Associate

Gülcihan Çiğdem Okan is Mercator-IPC Fellowship Program Associate. Gülcihan holds an MA Degree from Sabancı University Conflict Analysis and Resolution Program. She received her undergraduate degree in International Relations from Bilkent University in 2011. During her BA, she worked at IKEA as an intern for a short period and also volunteered for the Bilkent University Social Responsibility Project and Young Guru Academy. She was an Erasmus student at the University of Amsterdam in 2010. The highlights of her graduate study were participation in “Mediation Training for Youth for Habitat” and “Workplace Conflict Resolution Workshop” for the School of Management at Sabancı University as a trainer, facilitating inter-faith dialogue between a group of Turkish and American students, and co-authoring the IPC report on “War, Trauma, and Reality: Afghan Women’s Plight in Turkey.” In addition, she took part in a field research in Bosnia focusing on “Justice and Human Security in Post-conflict Societies” and contributed to the presentation of the field research outcomes.

Final Evaluation Meeting

The Istanbul Policy Center-Sabancı University-Stiftung Mercator Initiative held the Final Evaluation Meeting with our 2023/24 Mercator-IPC Fellows on September 10, 2024. The event featured presentations of research project results by fellows, with the participation of Kerem Öktem (online), Fuat Keyman and Ümit Şahin. The presentations were followed by the fellows' evaluations of the program in terms of its objectives, impact, and future direction. A farewell dinner marked the conclusion of the 2023/24 fellowship cohort.

Mercator-IPC Alumni Retreat 2024

As the Istanbul Policy Center-Sabancı University-Stiftung Mercator Initiative, we are thrilled to host the 6th Alumni Event of the Mercator-IPC Fellowship Program on June 7-9, at Narköy, İzmit.

We believe that the synergies and the exchanges in these alumni events are crucial in keeping this dynamic network alive.  We are looking forward to having new opportunities for more exchange and networking among our fellows.

The event continued with a movie screening that introduced the 2021/22 Mercator-IPC Fellows Anna Zadrożna, Arzu Karakulak, Ezgi Ediboğlu, Onur Sazak, Sibel Karadağ and Theocharis Grigoriadis.

The Welcoming of the 2020/21 Mercator-IPC Fellows was held on October 19 at The Seed. The event began with welcoming remarks by Yusuf Leblebici, followed by remarks from Fuat Keyman and Michael Schwarz. The event continued with a speech by Mercator-IPC Visiting Senior Fellow Pankaj Mishra and a Q&A section moderated by Senior Scholar Senem Aydın-Düzgit. The speech was followed by a movie screening that introduced the 2020/21 Mercator-IPC Fellows Ahmet Atıl Aşıcı, David Samuel Williams, Elena Dück, Jan Schierkolk, Karolína Augustová, Michael Kaeding, and Özge Geyik.
