Jörn Richert is a political scientist and policy advisor. In November 2014, he resumed his post as an assistant professor at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. He has been working as a Mercator-IPC Fellow since January 2014. The title of his project is “EU-Turkish Policy Options for a Mutual and Sustainable Energy Future.”
Richert’s areas of expertise include international energy politics, foresight methods, and systemic theories of international relations. From 2011 to 2013, he worked as an analyst with the Future Analysis Branch of the Bundeswehr Planning Office, where he focused on foresight methods, energy, the environment, and the world economy. He also served as an Associate at the Stiftung Neue Verantwortung (SNV) in Berlin, where he advised the research project “EU Economy Foresight” on foresight methods and worked on the future of the global energy order. He has previously worked at the Centre for Advanced Security Theory (CAST), Copenhagen University, and the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, SWP) in Berlin.
He studied political science, economics, and psychology in Kiel and Madrid and obtained a doctorate degree in Sociology/International Relations from Bielefeld University in 2014.

Turkish Energy Leadership and its Implication for European Energy Security
IPC-Sabancı University-Stiftung Mercator Initiative and Stiftung Neue Verantvortung convened an expert roundtable on "Turkish Energy Leadership and its Implication for European Energy Security" on September 29, 2014 at the Stiftung Neue Verantwortung in Berlin. The meeting was initiated by Mercator-IPC Fellow Jörn Richert.

Welcoming of the 2013/14 Mercator-IPC Fellows took place on October 7, 2013 at Cezayir Restaurant. Welcoming remarks were given by IPC Director Fuat Keyman and Stiftung Mercator President Bernhard Lorentz.
In the panel organized under the framework of welcoming event; IPC Executive Board Member and Brookings Institute Vice President Kemal Derviş, École des hautes études en sciences sociales Professor and Mercator-IPC Senior Fellow Nilüfer Göle, 2013/14 Mercator-IPC Fellow Kerem Öktem, Mercator-IPC Senior Fellow and Former Member of the German Parliament Ruprecht Polenz and IPC Director Fuat Keyman had a discussion titled “Turkey in Europe: Living Together and Democratization.”
