Osman Cenk Demiroğlu is a tourismologist and geographer. His research focuses on issues of sustainability and feasibility within the tourism and hospitality industry.
After receiving his BA and MA degrees in Tourism Administration from Boğaziçi University and Istanbul University, respectively, Cenk began pursuing his doctoral studies in the Geography Department at Istanbul University. While being a scholar of the Swedish Institute, he obtained two MSc degrees in Human Geography from Umeå University, with a specialization in tourism and spatial planning. While writing his dissertation, “Climate Change and Ski Tourism,” Cenk also managed projects at the Western Norway Research Institute and Matej Bel University for two years through the YGGDRASIL and the NORKLIMA Fellowships of the Research Council of Norway and the National Scholarship of the Slovak Republic. He completed his PhD in December 2013.
Prior to his affiliation with the Istanbul Policy Center, he served as a lecturer at Boğaziçi University, where he has also carried out critical research with the Climate Change Work Group (IklimBU). Such research found the basis for his IPC project dealing with the vulnerability of ski tourism in light of climate change in both Turkey and Germany.
Demiroğlu served as the director of the School of Tourism and Hospitality at Istanbul Bilgi University from 2015 to 2017 and is currently pursuing his career at Umeå University.
Snow Sports Tourism Development Policies in Turkey
Daniel Turner and Sandro Carnicelli's book Lifestyle Sports and Public Policy was published on April 26, 2017 with Routledge. The book featured a chapter by Senior Scholar Korel Göymen, 2014/15 Mercator-IPC Fellow Cenk Demiroğlu and Research and Administrative Affairs Coordinator Cana Tülüş Türk, titled "Snow Sports Tourism Development Policies in Turkey".

IPC-Sabancı University-Stiftung Mercator Initiative took part at Istanbul Climate Forum (İstanbul İklim Forumu) which was held on November 12-13, 2015 at Boğaziçi University, Garanti Cultural Center.
Tourism in a Decarbonizing World Economy
IPC-Sabancı University-Sitftung Mercator Initiative convened a seminar titled “Tourism in a Decarbonizing World Economy” with the participation of Prof. Dr. Stefan Gössling (Linnaeus University / Lund University / Western Norway Research Institute) on September 16, 2015 at IPC. The meeting was initiated by Mercator-IPC Fellow Cenk Demiroğlu.

Welcoming of the 2014/15 Mercator-IPC Fellows
The partners of the Istanbul Policy Center-Sabancı University-Stiftung Mercator Initiative held a welcoming event on October 20, 2014 at Feriye Restaurant, Istanbul. The fellowship program is a five-year strategic partnership between Sabancı University and Stiftung Mercator. The program aims to strengthen academic, political, and social ties between Turkey and Germany, as well as between Turkey and Europe by facilitating excellent scientific research and hands-on policy work.
