Call for Papers: Climate Responsive Urbanism: Unpacking Water and Energy in Cities

The Istanbul Policy Center-Sabancı University-Stiftung Mercator Initiative would like to announce the Call for Papers for the 2nd International Conference on “Climate Responsive Urbanism: Unpacking Water and Energy in Cities,” which will take place virtually on May 21–22, 2021.

Konferans Bildiri Çağrısı: Climate Responsive Urbanism: Unpacking Water and Energy in Cities

This year’s conference traces cities’ potential in responding to the climate crisis by focusing on two critical fields that local governments must reimagine and rework: water and energy. While cities are expected to operate within the parameters of national strategies on water and energy, cities’ close work with local communities award them a surprising amount of control over these sectors, offering considerable room for innovation, experimentation, and citizen participation. Yet, rather than relying on techno-managerial answers or bidding on market solutions, we propose to understand climate responsive cities in a holistic manner, considering social, cultural, political, governmental, technical, and financial aspects of how urban settings serve in climate preparedness.

We welcome applicants from all research fields related to climate responsive urbanism. The conference will provide an international and interdisciplinary knowledge-exchange platform for scholars from different disciplines and countries.

Applicants are invited to submit:

An extensive abstract of 800 to 1,000 words (in English), including the theoretical framework, empirical findings, methodological approach, and main contributions to the field. The abstract should be sent to the following e-mail address: urbanclimate@sabanciuniv.edu

The submission deadline is November 23, 2020.
