Sounds of Istanbul – The City's Moods: Music with Bulutsuzluk Özlemi
Istanbul Policy Center (IPC) is launching a new panel series titled “Sounds of Istanbul,” coordinated by Orhan Tekelioğlu and Alper Kaliber.
Exploring Istanbul’s musical culture in relation to the city’s social, cultural, and political transformations, the series focuses on the dynamic relationship between music and urban life from the early 20th century to the present day. From streets and ferries to nightclubs and concert halls, and from record stores to digital platforms, the series will examine Istanbul’s evolving soundscape through the lenses of migration, urbanization, cultural diversity, collective memory, and the music industry.
Held monthly, the panels will bring together musicians, academics, researchers, and figures from the arts and cultural sectors to explore Istanbul’s musical past, present, and future from diverse perspectives. Topics will range from the transformation of music venues and the contributions of different communities to the city’s musical heritage to cultural policies and changing listening habits
