Net Zero 2053: Energy Sector Policies

A holistic approach encompassing policies, regulations, technological advancements, and changes in consumption habits is needed for a successful energy transition. In this context, public policies are a crucial tool due to their impact on all these factors. Globally implemented climate change mitigation policies cover a wide range of options, including carbon pricing, incentives for renewable energy, support for energy efficiency measures and standards, policies to increase electrification, regulations in the electricity system, and practices to increase resilience. Creating the right combination from this broad range of policies is essential for accelerating the energy transition and decarbonization processes more quickly and cost-effectively. In this context, the main objective of this study is to outline economy-wide policy recommendations that can pave the way for Turkey to achieve its 2053 net-zero emissions target, taking into account currently implemented energy policies and global best practices in Turkey.
