Short project description: Climate Dis/misinformation as a Governance Risk: From Narratives to Policy Implications
The spread of false and misleading information blurs public debate, fuels polarization, and erodes social cohesion, calling scientific evidence into question and deepening societal divisions that hinder the consensus needed to address complex policy challenges. While not a new phenomenon, digitalization has transformed the reach and impact of dis/misinformation, making it a governance risk, both globally and in Türkiye. This extends to nearly every area of politics and public life, including the discourse on climate change.
This project combines an analysis of international climate dis/misinformation trends with consultations with local fact-checkers and experts in Istanbul, to contextualize climate dis/misinformation at the national level. The preliminary findings will then be presented at side events during COP31 in Antalya, offering a unique platform for engagement, international outreach, and dissemination.
