Perceptions and Policies Regarding Just Transition in Turkey – Local Case Studies: Yatağan and Çan

Under the "Supporting a Just Transition in Türkiye Project", carried out by the Istanbul Policy Center (IPC) between October 2023 and July 2024 within the framework of the EU Climate Dialogues (EUCD) programme funded by the European Union (EU), a series of studies was conducted on a just transition in the energy sector. The research, undertaken at the national level as well as locally in the districts of Yatağan and Çan, aimed to reveal the current state of just transition policies — a key dimension of Türkiye's energy transformation — along with stakeholder perceptions, opportunities, and obstacles. The two local case studies demonstrate how this process could take concrete shape in coal regions.

We are pleased to share with you the resulting report, titled "Perceptions and Policies of a Just Transition in Türkiye – Local Case Studies: Yatağan and Çan".
